Managing Director Bill Baumel Will Speak to 30-Plus College Presidents June 20
When the presidents of Ohio’s colleges and universities gather next week at their 11th annual conference in Washington, D.C., one of the first voices they’ll hear will be that of Ohio Innovation Fund Managing Director Bill Baumel. Baumel is scheduled to be the event’s first speaker after the introduction by host U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.
Explaining OIF’s Critical Mission to High-Level Decision-Makers
Innovation is a major theme of the Ohio College Presidents Conference, so it made perfect sense for Brown’s office to reach out to OIF. Baumel and OIF will be prominently featured alongside representatives of such organizations as the U.S. Department of Education, the Center for American Progress and Georgetown University.
He plans to speak on OIF’s mission of providing venture capital & expertise to early-stage companies, as well as its connections to colleges in and out of Ohio – including Ohio University and The Ohio State University – that are served by our portfolio companies. Baumel will also talk about the barriers to success that need to be overcome in the Midwest, such as lack of understanding of venture capital and a tendency to not think big enough, as well as the key investment criteria OIF uses.
Encouraging the Important Work of College Presidents
OIF is grateful for the opportunity to speak to a group of such influential decision-makers in our state. Ohio’s colleges and universities are producing the entrepreneurs of tomorrow, who may one day bring their revolutionary ideas to OIF, and speaking at the conference presents the chance to speak directly to the people overseeing those potential entrepreneurs’ education.
The Ohio College Presidents Conference takes place Wednesday, June 20. Last year’s conference brought in almost 40 college presidents from across the state.
